Are Fine Art Portraits Relevant in 2015?

There are many reasons, tangible and intangible,  that painted portraits remain relevant today.

Digital technology will only continue to progress. One effect of this is that personal photos that were taken with the latest and greatest digital cameras only ten years ago are at such a low resolution, compared with today's devices, that they display at ever decreasing sizes.

Forget about size, formats for taking and storing digital photos continue to change. Floppy disks, Zip drives, CD's, DVD's... how many storage media have you used in just the last twenty years? Paintings done with archival materials will last for centuries. And you don't have to try to track them down in a drive that contains thousands and thousands — millions? of images. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
